Teddi Mellencamp’s Tearfully Reveals Dad John ‘Pretty Much Saved My Life’ Amid Cancer Battle
Teddi Mellencamp‘s biggest hero is her dad.
On Thursday night, Teddi and her dad John Mellencamp attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards. While there, the 74-year-old rocker was honored with the Icon Award, which his daughter got to present to him.
During her presentation, Teddi got choked up when talking about her dad. As you know, the Real Housewives star has been battling cancer since 2022 (though last year she announced it has metastasized to her brain and lungs), and during that time she really leaned on her dad for support. She got super emotional while giving her dad the award, saying:
“For me, [his song] Longest Days has been the song that means the most. In it he sings, ‘But nothing lasts forever / Your best efforts don’t always pay / Sometimes when you get sick and you don’t get better / That’s when life is short, even in its longest days.’ It was a little over a year ago when I got sick. My life felt short even when the days in the hospital seemed to go on forever.”

The Bravo star repeated that she got sick and didn’t get better, just like his song lyric, and got tearful while adding:
“He wasn’t going to let that lyric define my life … [He] stepped up, took control, fought for me, and pretty much changed my life. Saved my life.”
So sweet! You can watch her speech (below):
Aww…
After the event, she spoke with Page Six about her dad, and she once again got emotional, saying:
“My dad, throughout my past journey, has been unbelievable.”
She said he “swooped in” when she needed him the most, and took care of her despite the fact he had to travel all the way from his home in Indiana:
“He was out here for months with me in the hospital, taking care of me at my bedside. [It] goes to show who he is as a person.”
She added:
“He doesn’t do anything halfway. And I think that’s why there’s no better person to get the Icon Award than my dad.”
We’re so glad Teddi has such a good support system in her dad. Such a sweet pair. We continue to send our love to her as she goes on in this battle.
