Food Influencer Ben Wood Dead At 43 After Trying To Save Woman From Drowning

Food influencer Ben Wood has sadly passed away. He was 43.

According to the New Haven Register, the social media personality, his wife, Maria Jose “Pepa” Duarte, and his father, Norman Wood, were walking along the beach on Monday when they spotted a young woman struggling in the sea off Algarrobo, Chile. They all rushed into the water with the woman’s partner to try to save her from drowning. Tragically, Ben, Maria, and Norman got swept out to sea and did not make it. They all drowned, along with the woman. Her partner reportedly survived after being rescued. How heartbreaking.

For those who don’t know, Ben was a popular food vlogger from Connecticut who lived in Chile and shared videos of himself trying out the local eats. His daughter took to Instagram to share a message with fans after his and Maria’s deaths, saying:

“My parents had a great love for their work, their lives, and their passion. And now, look mom! Look dad! March 9th will be for you guys and for remembering how you guys gave your lives for others, like you did many times before. I hope to see your friends (my uncles and aunts) these days of hurt but also celebration. I love you guys from here to the sky.”

This is such a tragedy! Our hearts go out to Ben’s loved ones during this difficult time!
