Taylor Frankie Paul Reveals She Suffered ‘Mental Breakdown’ On-Camera Before Mormon Wives Production Pause Over Alleged Domestic Dispute
Taylor Frankie Paul has been struggling for a while…
In an interview with Vulture, released on Friday but conducted before the latest domestic assault incident between her and Dakota Mortensen in February and the cancellation of her Bachelorette season, the 31-year-old reality star got very real about her mental health. Taylor explained that she felt “more healthy” while filming The Bachelorette because she “wasn’t in survival mode,” but is “in survival mode at home.” As you know, she has since accused Dakota of mentally and physically abusing her for years, which he has since denied.

When she returned to Utah, everything started to get to her. According to Taylor, she did not get much of a break between filming both shows. She filmed Season 4 of Mormon Wives in early fall, then went straight into production for The Bachelorette from October to December, and returned to filming Season 5 of Mormon Wives in January and February. The only break she got was the Christmas holiday. Filming and raising three children became so overstimulating for Taylor one day that she claimed she laid down on the floor and dissociated:
“I’m overwhelmed to the point that I feel suffocated. The emotional toll, it catches up to you, and I think I’ve been go-go-go that I have not processed s**t that actually hurts.”
Since returning to Utah, Taylor posted to social media multiple times that she felt like she was in a really dark place, which she partially blamed on seasonal affective disorder to Vulture. According to the Mayo Clinic, it is depression triggered by the changing seasons. She told the outlet she even blocked out the past several months. And by February, she reached the point where she cut 60 percent of her press obligations — because she suffered a “mental breakdown” while filming Mormon Wives:
“I had a mental breakdown the other day on-camera, and it was just like, ‘Well, we have to be here. We’re contracted’—no. This is not acting. I’m having a mental breakdown. I’m going home. That’s it, period.”
Before everything came crashing down weeks later, Taylor admitted that moment “has been the closest I’ve ever gotten” to quitting reality TV. But she added:
“I’m not really a quitter.”
Ultimately, Taylor is getting an extended break from filming anyway. Production is on pause for Mormon Wives after the cast refused to film amid an investigation into a domestic dispute between her and Dakota. She also likely won’t have many press events in the near future since The Bachelorette will not air due to the release of a video of her attacking her baby daddy in 2023.
