The Alleged Secret Reason Vegas Showgirl Is Suing Taylor Swift Revealed!

The alleged REAL reason behind the lawsuit coming after Taylor Swift has been revealed!

Late last month, we reported the pop superstar was being sued over her latest album The Life of a Showgirl. For those who aren’t caught up, a woman named Maren Wade filed the suit on March 30 accusing Taylor, UMG Recordings, and Bravado International Group Merchandising Services Inc of copyright infringement. You see, Maren claims she’s been cultivating her own brand, Confessions of a Showgirl, in Vegas for the last 12 years.

She fears that since Taylor is so popular and has such a global reach, anyone who later discovers Confessions of a Showgirl will think it’s just a ripoff of the album. Maren’s lawyer Jaymie Parkinnen said in a statement:

“A solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn’t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along.”

The suit also claimed that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office declined Taylor’s application to register The Life of a Showgirl, noting it was confusingly similar to Maren’s — yet the pop singer still went ahead with merchandising. The suit claims:

“Within weeks, the designation was affixed to consumer goods, stamped onto labels, tags, and packaging, and deployed as a source identifier across retail channels — all directed at the same audience Plaintiff had spent years cultivating.”

Oof.

But there’s another potential motivation Maren has for sounding alarms — and it has to do with where Taylor may take her next round of live performances.

On Tuesday, an insider told DailyMail.com that Maren may have filed the suit to protect herself ahead of a possible Las Vegas residency for The Life of a Showgirl singer:

“It was definitely shocking to friends when the news came out. Her show is Confessions of a Showgirl, not The Life of a Showgirl. It’s a little confusing, but she has been building this brand for over a decade. If you can have a steady gig in Vegas, everyone’s going to want [a residency]. What she could be hoping to get out of this is to protect her brand, that she can continue.”

The source added:

“And maybe it was pre-emptive because obviously there are all these rumors that Taylor is coming to do a residency. So maybe this was just her way of saying, ‘Look, I need to protect my brand in my city’ before she gets a cease and desist and [she] can’t do a show called Confessions of a Showgirl because Taylor’s doing her residency called The Life of a Showgirl.”

The outlet went on to report that when Tay Tay announced TLOAS back in August, rumors of a Sin City residency had already begun brewing. One insider claimed:

“The rumors of a residency in Vegas are true, but nothing is set in stone when it comes to whether she will do anything at The Sphere, Caesars, Park MGM. All these discussions and logistics are ongoing.”

Another insider added:

“She is eyeing seven dates at a venue in Vegas but does not want it to follow the regular model of a residency as her main focus will be a tour.”

According to the outlet, Maren by no means struggles with money. Her father Keith Fromm owns a law firm AND the $8.5 million Stradella Court Mansion in Beverly Hills, while her husband Harlan Flagg is a business owner. The pair reportedly live in a $1 million abode in Vegas with their son. Still the Sin City performer is seeking a court order to block Taylor’s use of the Showgirl brand, and unspecified damages for “the irreparable harm to her business, reputation, and goodwill.”
