‘The Testaments’: Everything to Know About Hulu’s Next Big Prestige Drama Spinoff

“The Testaments” is poised to become one of 2026’s most talked-about premieres. Serving as the official follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, the new series builds on the Emmy-winning drama’s legacy while shifting focus to a new generation raised within Gilead’s oppressive regime.

Hulu has set an April 8, 2026 premiere date for the highly anticipated series. The first three episodes will debut at launch, followed by a weekly rollout, positioning the show as a major spring tentpole for the streamer.

The series will also be available internationally via Disney+, underscoring its global appeal and the enduring reach of The Handmaid’s Tale universe.

Set years after the events of its predecessor, The Testaments shifts the narrative lens from survival to awakening. At its core are three young women whose lives intersect in a society defined by control, hierarchy, and silence.

Agnes, raised within Gilead, begins to question the belief system she’s been taught to accept. Daisy, an outsider with her own secrets, finds herself pulled into a dangerous new reality. And at the center of it all is the enigmatic Aunt Lydia, repised by actress Ann Downd, whose motivations and loyalties grow increasingly complex.

Together, their stories explore identity, resistance, and the cost of truth in a world where freedom is anything but guaranteed.

The series blends returning talent with a new wave of emerging actors, led by Chase Infiniti as Agnes and
Lucy Halliday as Daisy. The ensemble also includes Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Mabel Li, and Amy Seimetz.

While Elisabeth Moss is not currently expected to appear on screen, she remains closely tied to the project as an executive producer, helping maintain continuity with the original series. At the helm is Bruce Miller, the creator of The Handmaid’s Tale, who developed the spinoff with a clear vision of expanding the narrative while preserving its emotional intensity.

He’s joined by a seasoned team of executive producers, with early episodes directed by Mike Barker, known for his work on The Handmaid’s Tale and Fargo. The continuity behind the scenes ensures a seamless tonal and thematic transition between the two series.

Where The Handmaid’s Tale centered on endurance, The Testaments explores what happens when a generation raised under authoritarian rule begins to question everything. The result is a story that feels both timely and urgent, tapping into broader conversations about power, identity, and resistance.

As the premiere approaches, one thing is certain: the story of Gilead is far from over.
