Netflix Reveals First Look at Live-Action Scooby-Doo

Netflix has officially unveiled the first look at its upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving fans their first glimpse at the most important character in Mystery Inc. history — Scooby-Doo himself.

In a major departure from previous adaptations, the iconic crime-solving Great Dane is being portrayed by a real dog for the first time ever, marking a bold new creative direction for the long-running franchise. The first image shows a young, expressive Great Dane puppy wearing Scooby’s signature teal collar, instantly sparking a wave of online reactions ranging from nostalgia to surprise.

The series serves as a prequel to the classic animated mystery universe, following the early days of Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred as they first come together during a supernatural case that sets the foundation for Mystery Inc.

According to Netflix’s official description, the story begins when Shaggy and Daphne encounter a lost Great Dane puppy at summer camp — a discovery that quickly pulls them into a chilling investigation involving strange occurrences, hidden secrets, and what may be a supernatural murder case.

The cast includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, with Paul Walter Hauser also appearing in a supporting role tied to the mystery surrounding Scooby’s origins.

While previous live-action versions of Scooby-Doo relied on CGI or hybrid animation, this new approach grounds the character in reality, leaning into a more cinematic, character-driven tone. Early reactions online have been split between fans charmed by the puppy’s look and others questioning how a real animal will capture the personality of one of animation’s most beloved talking dogs.

Still, anticipation is already building as Netflix continues expanding its slate of reimagined legacy franchises aimed at both nostalgic audiences and a new generation of viewers.
