TRAILER TUESDAY: Tom Cruise Is Almost Unrecognizable in “Digger”

Tom Cruise is going where we have never quite seen him before. The new trailer for Digger has arrived, giving audiences a first look at Cruise’s wildly transformed performance as eccentric oil tycoon Digger Rockwell.

Complete with a gray comb-over, prosthetics, a potbelly and a thick Southern accent, the actor is nearly unrecognizable in the upcoming film trailer from acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu.

The film follows “the most powerful man in the world” as he embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he has unleashed destroys everything. And if the trailer is any indication, Digger is shaping up to be one of the more unexpected films of Cruise’s career.

The darkly comedic film marks Cruise’s return to a non-franchise movie in nearly a decade and reunites him with Iñárritu, the Oscar-winning director behind Birdman and The Revenant. The cast also includes John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons and Michael Stuhlbarg.

While Cruise is best known for blockbuster action roles like the Mission Impossible franchise, Digger appears to give the actor a completely different kind of challenge. The trailer teases a strange, satirical and potentially apocalyptic story centered on a powerful man forced to confront the consequences of his own actions.

The last time we saw cruise in this type of role was when he played the foul-mouthed, hot-headed Hollywood studio executive Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder… and honestly? We are very excited for it!

Digger hits theaters October 2, 2026.
